Middle School Drama

The purpose of Drama in Middle School is to introduce and develop the tools a student needs to succeed at GCSE Drama level. Since Middle School is also a time where spiritual and social skills are a large focus, the Drama curriculum takes advantage of its social nature to explore issues relevant to the students. Students study drama in Middle School for 3 years. Over that time they will explore the following topics:

Year 6

  • Introduction to Drama and theatre
  • Freeze frames and still image
  • What's so Godly about Drama?
  • Poverty
  • Characterisation
  • Children at war
  • Mime and physical theatre
  • Story telling
  • Greek theatre

Year 7

  • Silent movies
  • Script writing
  • Physical theatre
  • Melodrama
  • Characters and plots
  • Live productions

Year 8

  • Narrative
  • Form and content
  • Genre and style
  • Staging
  • Script writing extended
  • Physical / dance
  • Gossip

When students enter the year 9 curriculum they will prepare for GCSE.
