Year 11 ICT


The Autumn 1/2 term will include the following subject topics -

*Control and Measurement


*Simulators

Computer models contain data and rules, letting us explore situations and what happens in these situations if we change the VARIABLES.

They can either be spreadsheet models or simulations.. You need to know these different types and their differences, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of using a computer model/simulation. You also need to know some examples of model/simulations.

If you can get 100% in the tests below and print them out - you will receive 2 merits.

*Operating Systems

Operating systems exist for you to use a computer profitably and effeciently without having to worry about managing hardware, system resources and applications. You need to know -

  • Basic functions and tasks
  • Types of user interface - including Command driven, Menu Driven, Graphical User Interface (GUI)
  • Types of operating systems including - Multi-user and Multi-Tasking

*Data Processing


*Social, Moral and Ethical Issues

The increasing computerisation of many areas in society has given rise to many concerns and issues with the IMPLICATIONS OF ICT IN SOCIETY. Will we have a 2-teir sociey based on the ability to afford new technology? Should we continue to have an unrestricted, uncensored World Wide Web? What continued effect will the media, including computer games, have on our future generations? Are we happy to see jobs replaced by new technology? Just because we can do something, does it mean we should?

Data Security

The development of networks and digitally stored data has meant that threats to the security of data has been addressed. These can be physical or access or data threats. You need to know what the threats are and how data can be protected against them.

Remember SADFLAB - 7 rules for protecting hardware, also the boardgames you created.
