SPECIAL NEEDS SUPPORT ASSISTANT

Hours: 20 per week

Period of contract and job description pertain to the period 1st October 2010 to August 31st 2011. All contracts at Bradford Christian School are on a yearly review and renewable basis.

Salary: £6.50 per hour term time only, paid monthly, plus 4 weeks holiday pay.

Principle Responsibilities:
To support and nurture a pupil at Bradford Christian School who has special educational needs.

In respect of these duties the successful candidate:-
• will be expected to observe rules of confidentiality

• should work under the supervision and direction of the subject/ class teacher and the SENCO

• should expect to be used elsewhere in the school if the child he /she is supporting is absent.

• should expect to provide 1:1 and / or small group support.

• should expect to keep and maintain accurate records in relation to the child he / she is supporting.

• should expect to provide pastoral care, being sensitive to pupil’s individual needs, whether physical, emotional, personal or social.

• will be expected to contribute to the preparation of the IEP/ planning and attend the annual review if necessary.

• will be expected to undertake examination duties which could further include acting as a scribe or reader.

• will be expected to join a rota for playground duties.

• will be expected to attend planning meetings, cluster meetings and staff training days as
directed by a member of senior management and the SENCO

• will be expected to join a rota for playground duties.

• will be expected to be available, on occasion, to accompany school trips and residentials

• will be expected to be directed by the SENCO and used in other areas / activities during non support time. E.g listening to readers, preparation of displays etc.

• may be directed by a member of the Senior Management Team and the SENCO to meet any other need the school may have and which may be seen as reasonable in relation to his / her experience of abilities.

A review of this contract will take place in April 2011.
