Maths

All students coming into Middle School at Bradford Christian School are taken through number skills and operations: times tables, number bonds and mental maths are honed to ensure students' numeracy is solid, allowing them to focus on more abstract mathematics as they progress through the school.

Students are assessed formally at the end of each term by nationally accepted criteria (National Curriculum levels, NFER, CAT or GCSE).

Whilst children are not set into different ability groups until Year 9, the students in Years 6 to 8 work through differentiated programmes of study according to their ability. Gifted students are challenged and stimulated by individual programmes of work. Those who require additional support are also provided for.

A wide range of teaching methods are employed. In addition to standard class teaching, where appropriate, computer-based maths programmes are used. A range of puzzles, open-ended questions and 'real-life' problems are used to stimulate students to look for (and solve) mathematical problems in the world around them.

The ICT and Maths Departments work closely on various subject areas such as Data Handling using spreadsheets, graph creation, tables, charts and geometry.
