25/1/2010 - Roles Reverse as Students Become Teachers
As the new half term comes around, brand new productions are underway for the GCSE Drama assessments. Since the classes are of a small size, Mr Heath decided to combine both Year 10 and 11 groups to create a collaborative production of Arthur Miller's The Crucible.
Part of the rehearsals are taking place in lessons with the collaborative side taking place in the extra curricular activities on a Tuesday afternoon. Year 10 are currently studying the text while Year 11 are revising. And what's a better way to revise than to be thrown into teaching the text yourself?
So, in their Friday lessons, 8 students from Year 11 have gathered together to create lesson activities to teach year 10 the text from the ground up. The students have been encouraged to work in pairs on activities which fulfill lesson objectives and then work from a plan on the Tuesdays as they deliver the lessons to year 10.
Feedback from the Year 11 group has been very positive as not only have they engaged in peer teaching but have had the opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge of the text themselves.
The GCSE Drama production of Arthur Miller's The Crucible will be performed in March. Details will follow.
