News from Rev Marianne at St James Community Church, Bolton Road

    Warmer weather - Advice
Given the recent warm weather, we would like to summarise our advice and uniform changes for the summer.

Generally, sunscreen, a hat and a water bottle are important when the weather is as nice as it has been this week.

    Primary
Smart black/grey shorts and white aerotex for boys and summer dresses or smart black/grey skirt and white aerotex for girls. Blue school jumper or cardigan

Black shoes are still required unless told otherwise, for trips etc.

Shorts and t shirt for PE.

    Middle and Upper

Regarding uniform, for Upper and Middle School students, blazers and school jumpers are optional to come to school.

School trouser material knee length shorts in grey or black are acceptable.

In school, Mr Moon or Mr Prothero will make a day by day decision about whether ties need be worn in class, or whether top buttons of shirts can be opened

    Thanks

Places 2024 - TELL FRIENDS & FAMILY ABOUT US

If you know anyone who would like more information about us and admissions, please pass on our office phone number - 01274532649 or ask them to email admissions@bxs.org.uk.

We are enrolling into nursery and reception. The government funds children until they turn 4, then part funds places for reception children until their fifth birthday.

We are one of the only Christian nurseries in North Bradford at the moment, please spread the word that we are open for enrolment and  love to give children the opportunity to have Christian input from the age of 3.

We are also 1 of only 27 Middle Schools in the UK. If you know anyone who is interested, please pass on our details.

Fees - you should have received your letter

The annual fee for a child at BCS is £5520 plus supplements (£180.00 middle school, £360.00 upper school)

This was shared with you via email in March 2024, and has been on the Week Ahead for a number of months.

This week we have assigned all means tested fee reductions and bursaries for those who applied, and you should receive your invoices for the next academic year before the end of next week.

The old fee band system no longer applies, and reductions have been allocated on a case by case basis, dependant upon full disclosure of income and outgoings.

As a school, we are very grateful to those organisations, churches, past parents and students who have sacrificially and regularly donated additional money towards bursaries, allowing us to help families in need. Several of you are benefiting from their generosity.

We are also grateful to our staff who earn sacrificial salaries for the work they do.

If you did not apply for a reduction by the 10th May then we can not guarantee it for September. New applications will open next Spring for 2024/25

Political actions on VAT policy - SIGN THE PETITION

In light of the recent General Election call for the 4th July...

    Petition link - https://chng.it/8rPHW9FDHg

    From the ICS:

All schools should be in touch with local politicians to make them aware of the impact of Labour’s tax proposals. We encourage you to focus on the impact on your parents, local state schooling, and your school operations. Stress whenever possible your school’s public benefit work, and existing links to the local community – as well as any specialised provision. While we still expect to see the tax proposals in the next Labour manifesto, our combined efforts are necessary to provide the best possible basis for conversations with Labour if they form the next government.

The ISC and associations are working at a national level to engage with the Labour VAT/charitable tax policy – but schools also have a vital role to play as local advocates. We are speaking to political parties, education groups, and unions – making them aware of the unintended consequences of the policy, but also the hugely positive role independent schools play in UK education. We are also highlighting the diversity of independent schools, the specialisms schools provide, and myth-busting about the true nature of our sector.

    Headteacher's Message

    Our Mission

To provide a holistic Christian education for all and to inspire discipleship.

    Our Vision

To be a Christian community in which everyone grows in character, faith, knowledge, understanding and wisdom.

Many thanks to all who came to Church on the Way last night, and had a glimpse of the year at BCS.

The evening was great, and we hope you could see our distinctive as a school.

This week has had many challenges, which made me wonder just how significant our Thursday evening was going to be.

As staff and parents prayed, I was able to rest knowing God was in control. The words in James 1 were significant

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Thanks to all who have prayed, thanks to those who stopped by, those who knew there were challenges but didn’t need any details, just trusting God to intervene.

You may not have seen the work behind the scenes, but I want to thank Shaun McGrail and his student techies, Jake Hutton, Richard March, Ruth Garcia, Rachael Honore, Beth Wilson, James Stannett, Mark Prothero, Phill Moon, Ebony Rowe and Julianna Wallace who worked behind the scenes, and showed real partnership

Machaela Hutcheson showed such joy telling her amazing story, which needs telling .

It was special to hear Mr Phill Moon as he spoke at the end of his time at school, where everything started 31 years ago. We are incredibly grateful to this man

And so many students were involved in the evening - well done all. We saw Year 11 on Meet and Greet, presenting awards, co-ordinating the event, and cheering on siblings and friends. Thanks all

And did I mention, I love that worship band! I have prayed for this for years and it is happening.

So thanks everyone, for making school somewhere I love to work.
