    GCSE Art Trip

The GCSE Art class were able to visit the local art exhibition at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery.
Established in 1984 and named after the experimental painter J.M.W. Turner, the Turner Prize is one of the world’s most famous awards for contemporary British art.
For over 40 years, it has sparked public debate by honouring artists who have achieved significant creative breakthroughs. While often held in London, the prize travels to a different UK city every other year; for 2025, the exhibition will be a centerpiece of the Bradford UK City of Culture celebrations at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery.
The exhibition showcases the work of four shortlisted artists.

    • Nnena Kalu (2025 Winner): Known for her large-scale, expressive sculptures made from layered paper, cellophane, and tape.
    • Rene Matić: Explores themes of Britishness, identity, and belonging through photography, sound, and textiles.
    • Mohammed Sami: Creates haunting, large-scale paintings that delve into memory, conflict, and exile.
    • Zadie Xa: Interweaves folklore and spirituality into immersive installations featuring painting, sound, and brass wind chimes.

    Half-Term: A Time to Unplug & Breathe

We’ve made it! Half terms are such special times for staff at BCS, who give generously in term time, then stop for time to breathe

As we head into the break, I sent them a rest challenge, and I thought you may like to share it.  This is the family version!

    • Silence the noise: Try to disable the notifications for a while. Let the school run busyness fade so you can actually hear that "still, small voice" of peace this week.
    • Creation over connection: My personal favorite! Take a walk without your phone. Look at the winter trees and the tiny new buds forming. Let nature remind you that God sustains the whole world without our constant effort.
    • The "brain dump" prayer: If your head is spinning with any worries - it may be about your children, your budget, or next term, write it down  on paper. Pray over it: "Lord, I hand these to You. You care for them more than I ever could." Then... leave the list behind.
    • Actual, physical rest: Sleep in if your family let you! Rest isn’t a luxury; it’s a gift. It reminds us that we don’t have to be the ones in total control of everything .
    • Total presence: Spend some real time with the people you love. The chores and the stuff can wait. Treasure each other.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28-30

Enjoy the quiet, enjoy your families,  enjoy the sun on Saturday, and we’ll see you all refreshed in a week's time!
