Liverpool to Leeds Enduro Epic

This Easter, five lads and their dads will set out from Liverpool to ride the whole length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Josiah Lush (Year 7) and his younger brother Isaac (Year 5), aka the ‘Lush Lads’, along with their friends Armin and John, will be giving up the comforts of a warm dry home and heading out for a four day 127 mile epic, weaving their way through the cities and countryside of north-west England, camping along the way. But why all the effort?

The lads and dads all attend Sunbridge Road Mission (SRM) that has, for over 130 years, served in the city of Bradford. There have been lots of change in that time, but the heart of the church hasn’t changed – it’s about sharing the love of Jesus. SRM is a diverse multicultural church family from across all walks of life – and it’s growing!

Although the heart of the church hasn’t changed, what has changed is the church building. Originally six back-to-back cottages knocked through to form a building, you can imagine that space is now running short and the building itself is getting tired with more than a few cracks appearing in the plasterwork and plently of TLC and repair frequently required!

SRM is praying and planning for a brand new building that will provide a welcoming, practical and accessible space to be a blessing to those the church serves for generations to come. This is the Making Space initiative (https://youtu.be/9KUHFWUz84k) – and that’s why the Lush Lads, Armin and John need your help…

How you can help:

  1. Firstly we’d love you to pray for the lads and their dads. Biking the whole length of the canal is a massive undertaking, especially for the boys, and we’d ask for safety in all the practice rides and for the big bike ride itself. With all the snow falling and the current cold weather, having warmer conditions would make a big difference – so we’d appreciate your prayers for that too. It’s also a great opportunity to share with others why we are doing what we are doing and for opportunities to share more about Jesus.
  2. Secondly, for those who are able, the boys would really appreciate and be encouraged by any sponsorship. All funds will go to the Making Space initiative at SRM. The boys’ JustGiving page, with some further info and updates, can be found at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/speedyjosiah
  3. Thirdly, join in part of the journey: whether at the beginning, middle or end, the boys would love some extra company on the trip. The last day (Sat 15 April) will cover Skipton through to Leeds and there may be a stop off at Saltaire. By this time the boys will be pretty wiped out, so having others join in would be a great morale boost.

More details and updates to follow on the JustGiving page.

Thank you!

Josiah, Isaac and Matt

Some of you may already be aware that our school cleaner, Nikki, has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and will no longer be able to do any physical work. This news has brought great sadness to our school community of which Nikki has been an important part for the last 15 years. She will be greatly missed by the many friends she has made here as well as by students past and present, with whom she has been very popular over the years. Nikki has always been such a joyful person, full of life and fun so this diagnosis has come as a bitter blow. Nikki can, however, depend on the support of her friends, her church and her Lord. It goes without saying that she faces a difficult road ahead and would therefore greatly value the prayers of everyone involved at BCS.

“But God has put the body together……. so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.  If one part suffers, every part suffers with it.” 1 Corinthians 12:24-26

Headteacher’s Message

Our mission

To provide a holistic Christian education for all and to inspire discipleship.

Our Vision

To be a Christian community in which everyone grows in character, faith, knowledge, understanding and wisdom.

Our school has faced a number of challenges this year, with staff illness and staff departing for a number of reasons.  Recruitment is not always easy, especially given that all new staff are required to articulate a Christian faith,  a sense of God’s calling to their role, and to work for a sacrificial salary. God does meet our needs, sending us people who are passionate about faith and Christian education, and they usually hear about us through you, our parents.

I encourage you to share our staffing needs in your communities. We would love a maths teacher to join our team. They must be a Christian, and we would really like them to be teacher qualified. The salary is not huge, but the job satisfaction of sharing faith in your everyday life is rewarding. Behaviour issues are limited, (though we work with human beings, so they do exist, class sizes are small, and families have chosen our Christian school for their children, therefore want to work in partnership with staff.

If you know of anyone, please ask them to contact us.

Thank you for your support of Bradford Christian School

Have a Blessed Weekend
